Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 30: Humiliation of public representatives by some of the officers has become a norm in Jammu & Kashmir and in a latest example a legislator was humiliated by an officer in North Kashmir today.
Reports reaching here said that Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sopore, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar was humiliated by a scientist of Sher-I-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology, Kashmir (SKUAST-K) during a function at Wadura in North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
The incident happened in presence of Minister for Agriculture, Mohammad Khalil Bandh. The function was held as part of the celebration of Wheat and Barley Day.
The incident occurred when the SKUAST-K scientist started claiming that the Wadura campus of SKUAST-K is doing wonders in the field of agriculture technology. The MLA Sopore asked the scientist to stop bragging and instead present correct facts about the working of Wadura campus to the concerned minister.
"Don't make hoax claims about your achievements at this campus and you should tell the truth to the people including the agriculture minister. You people don't allow the farmers to enter inside the campus and not to talk of providing benefits to them. It is better that you present a true picture of the working of this campus," said MLA Sopore.
The SKUAST-K scientist who probably was not knowing that he is addressing a legislator asked him to shut up and not to meddle his nose in the functioning of SKUAST-K more so the Wadura campus of the varsity. All this drama was witnessed by agriculture ministers with some other dignitaries also present at the podium.
"Don't make noise about the whole issue and it would be better for you to shut up. You want to create a scene here and we won't allow you to do that. You just sit on your chair and don't make fuss about the whole issue," shouted the scientist towards MLA Sopore.
The farmers who were present during the function took strong exception to the 'humiliation' meted out to the MLA Sopore. Most of them stood up and told the minister that they are not allowed to enter the campus of Wadura and the scientists are just painting a rosy picture about the working of the campus.
The function was attended by Vice Chairman J&K Horticulture (Produce & Marketing) Development Corporation Ghulam Muhammad Mir, MLA Sopore Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Rafiabad Yawar Dillawar Mir, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K Nazeer Ahmed Commissioner Secretary Agriculture, Mehrajudin Khan, Director General Sericulture Tariq Ahmed Mir, Director Agriculture Ajaz Andrabi, other officials of SKUAST and agriculture department besides a large gathering of agriculture scholars.
