'Bid to hi-jack decision making in Institutes of Higher Learning'
Prof Mattoo desperate to place his blue-eyed as JU VC
5/30/2018 11:40:59 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 30: The stakes for the post of Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu (JU), which has fallen vacant after the completion of the tenure of Prof Ramji Dass Sharma, have gone high following involvement of Advisor to Chief Minister Prof Amitabh Mattoo who is lobbying hard to place his blue-eyed on it.
According to highly placed sources, Prof Amitabh Mattoo played a key role in appointment of his blue-eyed Prof Ashok Aima as Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu (CUJ). "Prof Mattoo successfully planted his "Yes-Man" as Vice Chancellor of CUJ using his connections in HRD Ministry. Not only this, he also played key role in appointment of a Kashmiri Pandit as chairperson of JK Board of School Education by exploiting his proximity with Education Minister," he divulged.
This time, Prof Mattoo, who also remained Vice Chancellor of JU for six years, is toiling hard to plant his another blue-eyed Kashmiri Pandit as Vice Chancellor of JU and using his contacts at higher echelons of power in Union as well as State Government, sources revealed and added that Advisor to Chief Minister was gradually trying to expand his influence over all the institutes of higher learning i.e. Universities.
"After taking over the control of State Knowledge Initiative, Prof Mattoo is taking his ambitions to higher level and for this he need to have maximum of "Yes Men" VCs who obey his dictates and straightway fall in line as per his direction. In this way, Prof Mattoo wants to extend his monopoly on institute of higher learning in J&K," sources added.
"By and large, Prof Mattoo succeeded in his attempts but he suffered a setback too when against his wish, Chief Minister appointed Prof Anju Bhasin as Vice Chancellor of Cluster University of Jammu. Here also, he toiled hard but since Prof Bhasin was having close association with the Chief Minister she managed to cross over. Notably, Prof Mattoo used his influence in Higher Education Ministry and managed the appointment of his choice as Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor of Cluster University of Jammu. But due to opposition of Vice Chancellor, the said person made exit and now serving as OSD to Prof Mattoo," sources further said.
Revealing more information, sources added that Prof Mattoo was so desperate in placing person of his choice as JU VC that he was extensively lobbying for his "Yes-Man" and simultaneously launching campaign against the strong probables. "Even he is trying to influence His Excellency (Chancellor) and Chief Minister on this account," sources concluded.
