Nearly one hundred activists of District Jammu Unit of BJP Anusuchit Jaati Morcha, led by its President Balwan Singh, today staged a dharna outside Raj Bhawan against SRO-294, which according to Morcha is detrimental to the interests of the backward classes.
BJP State Morcha President Narsingh Dass Rajwal, while addressing the protestors accused the government for deliberately sleeping over the matter even though the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had himself, on the floor of the State Assembly, announced to amend the controversial SRO and restore eight per cent reservation to the community. State General Secretary and Morcha Prabhari Bali Bhagat said that reservation to Scheduled Caste community has been provided on the basis of population in the state but in Kashmir, Poonch and Ladakh percentage of SC community is almost nil as such the reservation should be provided on the percentage of SC community in each and every district.
Bansi Lal Bharti, a senior Morcha leader demanded reservation in the schemes like Rehbar-e-Taleem, Rehbar-e-Zirat, Rebhar-e-Sahet and in government jobs as also in contractual and consolidated based appointments.
Morcha General Secretary Adarsh Bhagat demanded reservations in the state at par with other parts of the country and said that eight per cent reservation too was not in accordance with the reservation policy of the Centre.
The Morcha leaders also demanded implementation of Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989 providing safeguards to the weaker and down trodden people, besides abrogation of Article 370 guaranteeing special status to Jammu and Kashmir State.
Balbir Ram, Surinder Bhagat, Ashok Gandhi and Manohar Lal, Adarsh Bhagat Raj Kumar, Sakina Bano, Vijay Thappa ,Kumar, Alok Nath, Arun Bhagat, Raman Bhagat, Om Parkash, Meera Samral, Dalip Kumar, Krishan Sarmal, Rajinder were among others to took part in the dharna.
