Feeling sorry for taking the selection process lightly by inviting the Mumbai selector for a brief period to select Ranji team last season, the president of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Dr Farooq Abdullah has indicated at inviting the selector well in advance to judge the players credentials.
Speaking at the valedictory function of JKCA sponsored Ist Twenty-20 cricket tournament under the banner of Luxmi Cricket Club at Parade Ground, here, Dr Abdullah also hinted at hiring the services of a young coach for the state cricketers next season.
“I have been approached by son of Mohinder Amarnath and also Ajay Jadeja to impart coaching to the cricketers in Jammu and Kashmir. The interest shown by these two cricketers has really encouraged me to do something concrete for promotion of cricket in the state,” said the JKCA president in his address to the gathering of present and former cricketers.
With regard to selection process, Dr Abdullah said, “I must admit that the JKCA committed a mistake by inviting a Mumbai selector for a brief period to name the state squad. I promise you (pointing at cricketers) that this time selector would be invited for at least a month in advance to have a close watch on the performance of the players.”
.In connection with cricket stadium at Bian Bajalta, near Sidhra, the former Chief Minister said, “On return from Delhi, I will be meeting the Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad to seek possession of the land. I’ll also try to take Mr Ajad along at the site to speed up the process of transfer of selected piece of land.”
Imaginary Farooq went to the extent that he told the cricketers present there that transportation arrangements would be made for to and fro of the practicing players to the stadium as the place is away from city.
