| NCC emerges Twenty-20 champion | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 16 Splendid all round performance from Hardeep Singh Prince today guided National Cricket Club (NCC) to title win in the Ist Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament after the club registered a 20-run victory over Madan Mohan Cricket Club (MMCC) in the final played today at Parade Ground, here. Hardeep, who earlier made 31 runs guiding NCC to a total of 107, later clinched four wickets giving away just seven runs in 2.5 over restricting MMCC to 87 in 17.3 over. He was declared man of the match for his all-round performance. Earlier, NCC won the toss and decided to bat first they made 107 runs losing nine wickets. Munish Dogra gave the innings a fine start making 21 runs including two boundaries. Later, in the middle order, Hardeep further accelerated the innings with his 31-ball 31 runs studded with three fours. Sanjay Sharma added valuable 19 runs to the total. From MMCC, Shashi was most successful bowler with four wickets for 12 in four over. Raman Dutta took two while Shafqat Baba and Ashwani Gupta shared a piece each. Later, chasing the target, MMCC made a poor start losing first three wickets with mere 10 runs on the board. However, experienced Ashwani Gupta (22 off 23 balls, 3x4) and Ram Dayal (15 off 17 balls, 1x4) played nice innings but could not guide their side to victory. Akshay Khajuria made quick-fire 13 off nine deliveries including three boundaries. Three batsmen, Abhishek, Raman Dutta and Pranav lost their wickets without opening their account. Hardeep remained the most successful bowler with four for seven in 2.5 over, while Munish Raghuvanshi and Deepak took two each from NCC. Though MMCC lost in the final, still the club won all the important prizes. Belongs to MMCC, Shashi Sharma was declared man of the series while Manish Dogra bagged the best batsman trophy. Deepak, again of MMCC was adjudged best bowler of the tournament. In the final and prize distribution function, JKCA president, Dr Farooq Abdullah was chief guest who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. General secretary of JKCA, Salim Khan, vice-chairman (Jammu wing), Sham Saroop Kalsotra, joint secretary (Jammu wing), Sunit Sharma and Corporator Priya Sethi were guests of honour. President of the host Luxmi Club, Dr Anil Mahajan presented vote of thanks expressing his gratitude to those who extending helping hand in making the event a success. Man of the match trophies for all the games played during the tournament were also given away by the general secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Salim Khan. The awardees included Pardeep (Luxmi Cricket Club), Deepu (KBCC), Syed Arif (City Cricket Club), Ranjeet Bali (National Cricket Club), Shashi Sharma (MMCC), Gourav (Cantt Cricket Club), Gourav (Dalptian Cricket Club), Vivek Singh (Challenger Cricket Club), Denny (LCC), Amit Blowria (NCC), Ashwani Gupta (MMCC), Vinay (Cantt Cricket Club), Sanjay Sharma (NCC), Raman Dutta (MMCC). Ram Dayal of MMCC and Surinder Gupta were given away special prizes for securing hat tricks during the tournament. Organised by Luxmi Cricket Club, the event was sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
