Decrying Konkan Railways Corporation Limited (KRCL) for underestimating the efforts of state based engineers, All Jammu and Kashmir Konkan Railway Consulting Engineers Association (AJKKRCEA) has demanded extension of their contracts keeping in view their contribution to corporation for ongoing Udhampur- Srinagar- Baramulla rail link project.
Addressing media persons in a press conference on Monday,Sami Pandita, President, Ajay Bhat, Vice President and Inderjeet Singh General Secretary of Association said that seventy four state based engineers have continuously been associated with the Corporation from last four and a half year and despite all the odds, contributed proficiently in Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla Rail link project but instead of extending our contracts, the KRCL is looking for fresh engineers from all across the country.
" If we have given every thing for the corporation during last five years why KRCL, instead of extending our contracts looks for absorbing fresh enginees on contractual basis from all across the country," they asked.
They further said that the corporation has published an advertisement in this regard which appeared in both national as well as local media for engagement of engineers on contractual basis but there was no mention of the preference to those already working with the Corporation.
" Most of us have already crossed the age limit and by no way, we can compete with the fresher lot in marks percentage," they added.
They should have at least given age and marks percentage relaxations to those who have toiled hard for the corporation even during the difficult situations all across the state, they said.
" If they don't cancel the advertisement and extend our contract for the period of five more years we would be left with no option than to launch a strike against the corporation," they said.
