| Training on control of avian flu | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 18 A three-day training programme on preparedness, control and containment of Avian Influenza organized by Animal Husbandry Department Jammu in collaboration with Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RDDL) Jalandhar started here today. Commissioner/ Secretary, Cooperative and Animal/Sheep Husbandry Mr. Devinder Nargotra inaugurated the training programme. In his inaugural address Mr. Nargotra highlighted the importance of the disease and impressed upon the functionaries of the department to work with zeal, enthusiasm and take steps to combat the disease. He impressed upon the participants to be vigilant in case of any eventuality, though the state at present is free from bird flu. Director Animal Husbandry Dr. S. P. Sharma while welcoming the Commissioner/Secretary, Scientists from RDDL Jalandhar and departmental officers representing various districts of Jammu division gave brief history of the Avian Influenza which is caused by a virus and is of zoonotic importance. He also informed that at present not even a single case has been reported from the state and all the samples screened so far have been found negative. However, a great surveillance/ monitoring is being carried out at check posts to check the ingress of infection into the state by thorough checking of poultry and poultry products.
