| CBI may proceed against those arrested in sex scam and those who have been summoned to ensure speedy trial | | | Srinagar ,July 5:-"Stop and proceed." This is going to be the state Government's strategy on the sex scam that had rocked the Kashmir valley. Informed sources said that since panic has gripped various segments of society in the valley, affecting the work culture in the offices, the Government favours that the CBI may stop summoning more people for questioning and instead concentrate on filing charge sheets against all those arrested and against whom summons have already been issued. The changed strategy is the result of growing tension in different echelons of state administrative machinery, including the police, besides politicians of various hues. The sources said that the Government has come to the conclusion that if the CBI continued its hunt for others who are alleged to have been involved in the sex scam there would be no end to the issue and it may take years together for the courts to award punishment to those found guilty. Also, the Government does not want that the its entire attention was diverted to the sex scam which could paralyse the state administration. Those in the ruling coalition who have been favouring "stop and proceed" policy argue that "speedy punishment could unnerve people forcing them to stop indulging in extra marital affairs. They believe that if the CBI continued its search for others, who may have been involved in the scam, it could further malign the politicians belonging to the ruling coalition and demoralize the bureaucracy. They explain that the state is in for a new reconstruction programme and issues like sex scam had the potential of affecting the pace of the development works. However,it depends on the courts and the CBI whether they would favour speedy trial of those arrested or continue the hunt for others also.
