Sudden death of Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohabbat Singh Raghuvanshi in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh has once again brought family members of Raju Chopra, awaiting arrest of mastermind and kingpin of 'Pardhi gang' Sangram Singh on their knees.
Chopra was murdered in cold blood along with four others including wife and daughter in september 2006 by members of the Pardhi gang, police invesitgations in the recent months have revealed.
According to reports reaching here, ASI Mohabbat Singh Raghuvanshi, who allegedly committed suicide and held senior police officers responsible for it, was working on the murder case in sync with state police and was nearing success.
Reports suggested that Singh had established good contacts with the pardhi tribesmen and was developing information on the basis of intelligence inputs.
Meanwhile, a suicide note left by Raghuvanshi (51) has accused IG (Intelligence) and in-charge of STF Sanjeev Singh and commandant of 25th Battalion (SAF) Sajid Farid Shapoo, both IPS officers, of mentally torturing him when he failed to arrest members of the Pardhi community, wanted in connection with the murder of five businessmen in Jammu a year ago. Shapoo basically belongs to Jammu, sources informed.
STF sources in Bhopal, however, said the ASI was in league with the accused and the J&K Police had evidence about his collusion. Raghuvanshi had been scolded and told to make the arrests fast.
The death of an experienced police officer who had established close contacts with the Pardhi tribesmen and was instrumental in solving several murder mysteries is bound to affect the investigation sin the case, a senior police officer said here today. Meanwhile family members of Raju Chopra had once again reiterated their demand of handing over inquiry to the CBI to get to the bottom of the truth. Son of Raju Chopra said that if police officers investigating the case would start committing suicide they will never be able to unmask the real culprits behind the gruesome murder.
He demanded fresh CBI inquiry in the case and reminded the state government that very little success has been achieved by the state police investigating the case since September 17,2006
Barring arrest of Bhawani Singh, a second in command of the Pardhi gang the state police is still searching for Sangram Singh despite conducting several raids in the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh.
