Streamlining of traffic in Jammu city discussed
Green Belt to be developed alongside Airport road: Pandey

A high level meeting of senior officers was convened under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Mr Sudhanshu Pandey to discuss various issues pertaining to road safety and smooth regulation of traffic here, today.
Commissioner JMC, Mr Vinod Sharma, Chief Engineer R&B, Mr Nazir Ahmed, ADC, Mr Hemant Sharma, IGP Traffic, SSP City, Joint Director Information, Mr. S.K Sharma were present in the meeting.
Interacting with the participants, it was decided that passenger sheds would be constructed at identified locations for convenience of commuters. A committee comprising of representatives from R&B, ADC and JMC was constituted to identify and propose locations for passenger sheds. It was decided that in urban areas, passenger sheds will be got constructed from private agencies on voluntary basis. The passenger sheds would be completed within two months period, before annual Darbar move, Mr. Pandey added.
The areas identified for constructing passenger sheds include Tali Morh on Janipur Road, Ambphala Chowk near Astha Nursing Home, Children Hospital at Ambphala, Rehari Chungi, under the flyover of Shakuntla crossing, on BC Road Government Quarters, Mini Bus Terminal at KC Chowk near Trikuta Complex, near Exhibition Ground/Press Club, family quarters gate of Jammu University.
Other issues discussed included Bus Bays at Ambphala, KC Crossing, Asia Crossing, Satwari, Mini Bus Stops at Panjthirthi, Kachi Chawni, Library Chowk, Ranbireshwar Temple towards Doctors Lane, J.P Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Ambphala, Rehari Chungi, Ahead of Shakuntla Crossing near B.C Road Quarters, near Trikuta Complex ahead KC Crossing, Jewel Chowk, Asia Crossing towards Gandhi Nagar Turning. Whereas possible, passenger sheds would be constructed at mini bus stops otherwise, information of routes would be highlighted on the poles, it was apprised.
Mr Pandey said that speed breakers wherever it is inevitable to be kept for while as for internal road speed check, boards to be installed instead of going for speed breakers.
He said that help line numbers be displaced at all prominent bus/mini bus stops for the convenience of general commuters. Rumbles strips to be laid in all prominent places. On to the bus stand over bridge near Hari Market, provision shall be made for carrying luggage by making the steel slop pathway. Traffic signals are to be installed prominently, cautioning the vehicle operators.
Divisional Commissioner informed the meeting the dream of Chief Minister to immediately develop Green Belt from Gandhi Nagar crossing to Satwari and onwards up to Airport for its beautification be speedily fulfilled.
Vice Chairman JDA, Commissioner JMC, IG Traffic, Chief Engineer R&B were of the opinion that for evolving proper traffic engineering master plan, Town Planning Department must be involved for practical expertise. It is the primary duty of executing agency to install no parking sign boards at identified sites for de-congestion and its enforcement shall be done by Traffic police.
Improvement, widening and repair of roads would be done on both sides of Rehari Chowk, Balwinder Chowk to be completed (At Rehari Chungi), Turning near Ware House (Kala Kendra side), Asia Hotel out gate upto SRTC gate, Circular road to avoid problems at Indira Chowk.
The other issues deliberated upon include railings on footpaths with appropriate breaches, construction, re-designing of traffic circles, installation of traffic signal system, installation of reflectors, erection of heavy vehicle barriers, construction of new bus stands, parking lots, relocation of offices, educational institutions located on main roads and restriction on tongas.
