| Conference on petroleum and gas exploration begins | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 20 International seminar on Petroleum and gas exploration was today inaugurated by Dr. Alan Smith of Cambridge University in Zorawar Singh Auditorium. Earlier Prof.GM Bhat welcome the delegates and dignitaries presented on the occasion. Chief Guest Dr. Alanm Smith while speaking on the occasion informed that prime minister supported the conference and was happy to note that Pakistan and 16 other countries and multinationals were participating in the conference. He hoped that conference will open new opportunities for exploration in the region and other parts of the world. Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Prof. Amitabh matto in his address expressed views on the regional cooperation in the hydrocarbon exploration especially between India and Pakistan. He hoped that this will not only pay way for successful exploration in the region but will also help in improving the Indo-PaK relations. He also stressed for the need of judicious use of energy resources and exploration of new frontiers including the Neoproterozic Era. Prof. Jonathanm Crag Head Geology presented inaugural lecture on “Global Climate, the Dawn of Life and Petroleum systems from North Africa to the Indian Sub continent.” Among others who spoke on the occasion included Syed Munif Raza, MD PPL Pakistan, Faraz Vice Chairman of National oil Corporation of Libya and Franco Contini, General Manager of ENI India. HOD Geology Department, MA Malik presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
