APHC leaders are determined to continue the dialogue process despite threats
7/5/2006 6:37:36 PM
Srinagar, July 5 :- Though Hizbul Mujahideen has denied that it had issued threats to leaders of the APHC,the Hurriyat leaders have taken a serious note of the Hizb statement in which it has said that "we have not dished out any threat to the conglomerate leaders for taking part in the dialogue process and if something went wrong to these leaders we should not be held responsible."
"Yes,we have read the latest statement of Hizbul Mujahideen in which it has denied that it had issued threats to us but we cannot ignore the implications of the statement in which the Hizb has stated that if something wrong happened to us it should not be held responsible," said Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat,a senior APHC leader.
He said on Wednesday "the chairman of the APHC,Molvi Umar farooq had received a threatening letter. we do not know whether it had actually come from Hizbul Mujahideen." He said "Molvi Umar Farooq had earlier announced that the dialogue process cannot be discontinued. Dialogue can be the only means for settling the Kashmir issue."
Prof. Bhat,in reply to a question, said that "I cannot comment on the Hizb statement that some agency had stolen out letter pads for dishing out threats to the Hurriyat leaders as these agencies wanted to drive a wedge between the two."
However, informed sources said that agencies across the border had directed Hizbul Mujahideen to disown the threat to the Hurriyat leaders because their participation in the dialogue with the Government of India and with Islamabad needed to be supported and encouraged. The sources said that Hizbul Mujahideen issued a denial only after Pakistani agencies had advised them to do so.
This seems to have caused confusion among the APHC leaders who fail to understand whether the threats were from Hizbul Mujahideen or from their rivals who did not want the Hurriyat leaders to continue the dialogue process with the Government of India.
