| Sonia arriving on Friday | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 20 On coming Sunday, the new J&K Congress president Saif-ud-Din Soz was supposed to demonstrate his popularity as he was scheduled to make his maiden visit here after getting the new assignment. Now Soz's visit has been preponed and he will be reaching here on Friday morning as Congress president Sonia Gandhi is coming here same day to meet the victims of snowfall. Sonia Gandhi will on Friday be making a whirlwind tour of the areas in Jammu and Kashmir where nearly 30 people, including several armymen, lost their lives to avalanches triggered by continuous heavy snowfall early this month. The Congress President would arrive in Jammu in the morning and immediately fly to Udahmpur air force base where she would be received by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz and several ministers in Azad's cabinet. They said she was scheduled to tour Azad's hometown and assembly constituency Bhaderwah and also to meet the affected people there. She would then make an aeriel survey of worst-hit Kapran, Verinag and Dooru areas of Anantnag district in south Kashmir. About 200 people were rescued while 12 people were killed in avalanches and blizzards that struck these areas in the first week of February. The officials said Gandhi would interact with officers and Congress party leaders at Khanbal Dak Bungalow in Anantnag district, briefly stop over at Srinagar and then return to New Delhi. The high-altitude areas of Kapran, Verinag and Waltango in Dooru assembly constituency were also the worst hit when 290 people died in a series of avalanches in April 2005.
