Jammu, July 28: A Sub-Inspector who is presently posted as in-charge of a police post in a rural area of Jammu region allegedly struck deal with a man, who reportedly kidnapped and raped a woman, for releasing him on legal grounds by pressurizing the victim's family for changing statements before the court of law. The police officer also delayed the registration of FIR in the case.
According to sources, last month a woman was allegedly kidnapped by a man, and accordingly the in-laws of the woman lodged a complaint with the police.
"Two weeks ago the girl was recovered and the SI in question, in spite of registering FIR, handed over the custody of the woman to her in-laws", said sources, adding that the said cop had struck deal with the accused for letting him free on legal grounds.
Sources that few days ago, the concerned police detained two persons and later on, the detained youth disclosed the place where the woman was allegedly held captive.
"The woman was recovered from the same place where she was held captive by her alleged kidnappers", said police sources, adding that after recovery of the kidnapped woman, the said SI released one of the youth who was accomplice of the kidnapper while the main accused remained in the custody of police.
If sources are to be believed, the SI took four days to register FIR in this connection, that too when seniors started mounting pressure on him.
After recovery of the kidnapped woman, the SI pressurising the family of the girl for changing the statements of the kidnapped and raped woman.
The SI also offered Rs 1 lakh to the family of the victim for changing statements.
