PM Modi's decision to withdraw ceasefire saved J&K for India
Mehbooba speaks

Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 28: Former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti has finally spoken on the controversial Ramzan Ceasefire or suspension of operations against terrorists. She has regretted the decision of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to withdraw the ceasefire. She has said had ceasefire been extended, things in Kashmir would have improved and paved way for peace and reconciliation. She reiterated her old stand. But she went several steps further and blamed what she called saboteurs for sabotaging her suggestion for the extension of ceasefire and said these saboteurs have only further complicated the situation in Kashmir.
At the same time, she said that her mission of peace, reconciliation and dialogue would continue and that she would strengthen her party at the grassroots levels. Her suggestion that the Government of India should have extended the ceasefire was fraught with dangerous consequences. In fact, she overlooked what the terrorists did during those 30 days of Ramzan ceasefire to hurt India and attack security forces. The Ramzan ceasefire was announced by Union Home Minister on May 16 and it was withdrawn on June 16 midnight. During the period of Ramzan, the terrorists attacked security forces umpteen time and martyred many security forces personnel and civilians. It was free for all situation in the Valley with the security forces being directed by the Union Home Minister not to open fire first. The terrorists used the period to regroup themselves, revise their strategy and induce Kashmiri youth to join terrorist ranks. They shocked the country line when they abducted Aurangzeb of 44 RR and killed him at Shopian. His killing changed the whole scenario forcing the Prime Minister to reject the suggestion of Mehbooba Mufti, known more for her soft attitude towards separatists and Pakistan than administrative ability and capability, as also known more for her anti-Jammu and anti-Ladakh policies. The fact of the matter is that the policies of Mehbooba Mufti had caused maximum damage to the national cause in the state and helped anti-India forces to radicalise not only Kashmir but parts of Jammu province also. Kashmir had almost slipped away from India and the situation in Jammu was deteriorating day by day with radical Islamists changing the Jammu's demography on an unprecedented scale. Had the Prime Minister not withdrawn ceasefire, not only Kashmir, but Jammu too would have slipped away. Indeed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saved J&K for India by acting on time and bringing the state under the Governor's rule.
