Newly appointed PCC Chief Saif-Ud-Din Soz is expected to receive a long list of ‘priority works’ being processed by party workers for his immediate attention. And change of dilapidated building housing PCC office near Shahidi chowk figure high on the list of party workers.
“The party high command had made changes in the state unit and handed over the baton to Saif –ud-Din Soz now we expect that the PCC chief will carry out major changes both within the party and within party headquarters to make his mark.
A senior party leader said here today, “We feel uncomfortable in the 70-year old building on the Residency Road where the PCC headquarters were established over 40 years ago. Many among the party workers said that they could not get an opportunity to discuss this matter with Prof. Soz who as new PCC chief visited the party office here yesterday.
These workers say that they would feel highly indebted to Prof. Soz if he succeeded in getting a new building for the PCC office. They said since the building, housing the PCC headquarters, is a custodian property “the party cannot undertake any major repair or renovation.” They say that BJP, the National Conference and the PDP have better buildings for their headquarters.
Congress spokesman, Mr Ravinder Sharma said that “we are trying to identify a piece of land or a building where we could either construct a house for the PCC headquarters or shift it from the dilapidated building to a better place.”He said Chief Minister, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, has already asked the party leaders to identify a new place for the party office. He said that Prof. Soz could also play a vital role in arranging a spacious place for the party headquarters.(KIP)
