| Another Hill Kaka in offing: Militants regrouping in Poonch district | | | Early Times Reporter Poonch | Feb 22
Dreaded militants groups Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) are reportedly regrouping in far flung areas of Poonch district, where they have reportedly managed to build underground concrete bunkers. Intelligence inputs, which are also available with police and army, suggest that heavy presence of militants was reported from far flung area of Surankote and Mandi areas of Poonch district. Sources informed that the intelligence agencies have warned about the heavy presence of militants in areas like Kalas, Marha, Dophalai, Moracha, Dodi, marha, Mugal Marha in Surankote tehsil and Sadouti, Kasbaladi, Balnoi, Upper Sursai area of Poonch district. It was reliably learnt that the areas were cleared from the militants in a massive operation launched in 2001-2002 and subsequently army posted its Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at various places, which were also being used as transit camps for the militants crossing to this side of border from Pakistan. The heavy militants' presence in these areas can be gauged from the fact that security forces gunned down at least ten militants, including two commanders, in separate encounters during the last one month. During the late nineties and early 2000 the areas were said to be hub of militants of various outfits. Following the intelligence inputs army had launched special operations to take control of the area. Another massive operation, 'Operation Sarpvinash', by army was said to be a major success in 2003 when army took over Hill Kaka area of Poonch district from the militant's control. The army had claimed to recover 7000 kgs of stored ratio besides huge stockpile of weapons, ammunition, anti-personnel mines and explosives during the operation Sarpvinash.
