| Statistics department holding two-day workshop | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 22
Two day National Conference on Emerging Trends in Statistical Methods and Optimization Techniques organized by Department of Statistics Jammu University was today inaugurated by Chief Guest on the occasion Minister of Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak. Statisticians from various parts of the country participated including premier institutes like Indian Statistical Institutes, IIT’s, ICAR, ICMR, NSSO, RBI, Directorate of Economics, and various universities. Speaking on the occasion, Charak emphasized upon the importance of statistics for planning and administration of the country and stated that this conference would not only provide platform for meaningful deliberations on the relevance of science of statistics and give their applications to users for the welfare of the nation. Director Institute of Applied Statistics and Development Studies , Luckhnow, Prof. AK Nigam, in his keynote address and emphasized on sample size in relation to margin of error, improved estimators, combining censues and survey estimates., apttern of malnutrition and precession of WHO standards. Prof. Matto while speaking on the occasion lauded the role of statistics by citing example of Prof. PC mahalanobis who was the architect of second five plan of the Govt. of India and also advisor to Pt. Nehru. Prof. JP Singh, Convener of conference also shared his views on present scenario and focused on application parts of statistics and challenges ahead. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Parmil Kumar.
