In first major anti-graft catch of this year, the Vigilance Organisation has taken into custody a Revenue officer after daylong raids today estimated his total assets worth more than Rs three Crores.
The sleuths of Vigilance Organisation today conducted simultaneous raids at the premises, office and other properties of Tehsildar Janak Singh in Jammu and Reasi districts. Presently posted as Tehsildar Recovery in the office of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Janak Singh has been taken into custody for further questioning and a case has been registered against under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The raids were supervised by SSP Vigilance (PRK) SDS Jamwal.
The searches conducted in the premises belonging to Janak Singh and his close relatives at Shastri Nagar, Greater Kailash and Reasi, have revealed that he has acquired movable and immovable property worth more than three Crores at the present value, by indulging in corrupt practices and misuse of his official position.
Case FIR No., 4/2008 P/S VOJ u/S 5(1)(e) r/w 5(2) PC Act was registered at P/S VOJ following a verification which revealed that Shri Janak Singh, Tehsildar Recovery, Jammu is in possession of movable and immovable property in the shape of a double storeyed house on 2 kanals of land at Shastri Nagar, Jammu, besides a petrol pump at Greater Kailash, Jammu and other movable and immovable properties in his own name and in the names of his close relatives which are disproportionate to his visible source of income. This property has been acquired by Shri Janak by indulging in corrupt practices and misuse of his official position.
Sources said that after source information the Vigilance Organisation had first conducted a secret inquiry to verify the assets of Revenue Officer and after confirmation that he possesses wealth which is disproportionate to his known sources of income; raids were conducted at his residence and properties. The VO sleuths also raided his office situated in the DC office complex and seized some documents for further examination.
