Notorious drug peddler arrested
Major bovine smuggling bid foiled, 50 bovines rescued

RAJOURI, July 8: Police have recovered a consignment of Charas from a noted drug peddler, who reportedly had earlier been detained under PSA on September 6, 2015, and also rescued 50 bovine animals from the possession of bovine smugglers.
Police arrested the drug smuggler identified as Rajan Gupta, son of Raj Kumar of Kalakot from Muradpur (Rajouri) and recovered 16 Challian (maize) from his possession carrying 300 grams of Charas.
"Rajan is a notorious drug smuggler and was earlier also booked in many cases in Rajouri district and outside the district and was laso detained under PSA," said SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas.
Rajan Gupta was arrested and booked in 2017 also along with Charas consignment and was earlier booked in case FIR No.210/2014 under section 8/20 NDPS Act, case FIR No 386/2011 under section 8/20 NDPS Act (at Rajouri police station), case FIR No.45/2012 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act (at Dharamshal police station) and case FIR No. 24/2010 under section 8/15/20 NDPS Act (at Kalakote police station).
The arrest was made on specific information by the personnel of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Rajouri police during frisking on Jammu-Poonch highway.
The police said during patrolling in Kangota and Nanga Thub areas, police party from Budhal police station headed by Jahangir Ahmed, SHO noticed suspicious movement of the animals.
"Accordingly a trap was laid and after sometime two bovine smugglers namely Khadam Hussain and Abdul Qayoom both of Gundha Khawas were apprehended along with 40 bovine animals," said a senior police officer.
He added both were booked under sections 188 RPC and 3 PC Act. Similarly police team of Sunderbani noticed movement of bovine smugglers near Marchola village.
Police team rushed to the targeted area but before it could reach, the bovine smugglers fled to notice the movement of police after leaving behind 10 animals.
Police have rescued the animals and have booked unidentified bovine smugglers under relevant sections of law.
