JAMMU BAR ASSOCIATION IS NOT A DIVIDED HOUSE: WAZIR
" WE ARE NOT DEFENDING ANY INDIVIDUAL, WE ARE FIGHTING FOR FAIR TRIAL"
7/5/2006 6:39:26 PM
Jammu, July 05 : Trying to play down the issue of division within the Jammu Bar association, Ved Raj Wazir, president of the Association said on Wednesday Jammu bar association is a united house and individuals donot make any difference.

Addressing a press conference,Wazir also made it clear that Jammu bar assocation was not defending any particular individual accused in the Srinagr sex scandal but fighting for the conduct of fair trail in the high profile case.

Responding to the allegations of one of the members of the Jammu bar association AK Sawhney, who was expelled from the bar on Tuesday,Wazir said we are not shielding any accused in the case. He said we want that all accused if found guilty should get severe punsihment but at the same time we cannot deprive them of the opportunity to defend themselves.

"We are demanding fair trail in the case and have only one demand, rule of law should be upheld".

He further clarifed his statement and said we have complete faith in judiciary and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing investigations in the case but pointed out that due to pressure from certain quarters in Kashmir fair trail in the sex scandal was not possible untill the case was transferred from Srinaagr to Jammu or to any other place outside state.

When asked to comment for how long they will continue their strike, Wazir responded by saying unless our demands were met we will continue our stir.

He said when we are aware of the fact that fair trail was not possible in the present circumstances the only option which is left out is transfer of case to ensure speedy trial.

Urging the state government to respond favourbaly to their demand, Wazir said we fail to understand when state government was aware of the circumstances under which trial was going on in the case why at all it was wasting precious time and hestitating in transferring the case from Srinagar to any other place.

When asked what response they have received from the state government, President of the Jammu bar association VR Wazir said that we have not received any reply from the state government in response to our demand of transferring the case from Srinagar to Jammu.
