The second round of pulse polio immunization of 2008 was launched today by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma and Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Peer Mohammad Hussain at Railway Station and Gandhi Nagar hospitals Jammu by administering polio drops to children. Minister of State for PHE Dr. Ramesh Chander, Director Health Services Jammu Dr. Jasbeer Singh, Director Family Welfare Dr. Abdul Hameed, Special Secretary Health Gulam Nabi, Chief Medical officer Jammu, Superintendent Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Senior Officers and Doctors besides prominent citizens, social workers and large numbers of parents were present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering after launching the drive, Health Minister said that 18.55 lakh children are being administered pulse polio drops today. He said 40,000 personal of health and social welfare department have been deployed at 9789 pulse polio centers across the state. He said 13 pulse polio centers have been set up in slum areas, besides having made arrangements for providing plus polio drops to children of transit passengers by deploying staff at railway station Jammu and bus terminals. Sharma said healthy society guarantees developed nations for which the health of children should be taken best care. He said Government has initiated various measures for better health care facilities of people in general and those of mother and child in particular. He said free vaccination of Hepatitis-B for children upto one year age have been kept available in all health institutions, which indicates that the government is deeply concerned for the health care of children. Health minister appealed people to bring their children at nearest health institution for free immunization for safeguarding them against various diseases. He exhorted upon medical fraternity to work with missionary spirit and ensure best possible health services to people. He stressed for intensifying awareness campaign in far off, hilly and downtrodden areas so that the people of these areas get more and more education about health and hygiene.Later the Ministers also inspected pace of work on under execution Out Patient Block at Gandhi Nagar Hospital. The construction of the OPD block involves an expenditure of over Rs. 10 Crore. The executing officials told the Ministers that Rs. 7 crore have been so far spent on the construction work adding that the complex would be completed by May this year. Ministers appreciated the pace of work and stressed for using quality material in the construction of health infrastructure being developed in the health institutions across the state. As many as 9.96 lakh children below 5 years age were administered Pulse Polio drops today in Kashmir division. For this purpose, an intensified campaign was launched across Kashmir division by Health department Kashmir. In all, 5046 Pulse Polio booths were established with manpower of 20204 belonging to Health, Social Welfare, Education and Non-Governmental Organization besides Aashas. MLA Bandipora Usman Majid took off the pulse polio campaign by giving pulse polio drops to a newly born baby. The District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Kh. Farooq Ahmad Renzu launched Pulse Polio campaign by administering pulse polio drops to the children early morning. Mission-2020 an NGO joint the state administration in pulse polio immunization programme by organizing a pulse polio camp at Jammu Tawi Railway Station in collaboration with Cadila Pharmaceutical Ltd. Samba. In Samba ditrict, NSS wing of Vimal Muni College of Education organized Polio camp . Chairperson of the school, Anu Gupta was accompanied by NNS Programme officer Rajvinder Kour. .
