| Sports instills spirit of National Integration in children-Haji Nissar | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 24
To ensure proper growth of physical and mental faculties of children, Govt. is going to include physical education as a compulsory subject in school curriculum, Sports Minister Haji Nissar Ali said here today while presenting prizes to the winners of 2nd Jammu Marathon 2008. "Sports as a discipline can instill in children the spirit of national integration, mutual camaraderie and respect for one another," he added. About a thousand participants from all walks of life including small children , women and senior citizens took part in the Marathon which took off from police sports Gulshan Ground this morning. In the men's final of this event Vipen Kumar secured Ist position and Pritam Kumar bagged 2nd position. In the same event among the participant of J&K police, Riyaz Ahmad and Parshotam bagged Ist and 2nd position respectively. In the women's 5 Kilometer Marathon Deepika and Reena got Ist and 2nd positions respectively and in "Run for Fun" even three and half year old Asma Gul and 78 years old S. Ajit Singh were declared youngest and oldest runners of the Marathon. Haji Nissar further said that one should participate in sports with a positive out look and not merely for winning. Earlier Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda had flagged off the race at 8 a.m. from Gulshan ground.
