Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 24
Is it the upcoming eight wonder of the world or a project of national importance. A cursory glance at the Chief Minister’s tours would reveal that not hospital, school or not even a site of tragedy has got as much attention as the upcoming Tulip Garden in Srinagar has got. After his last visit to Siraj Bagh on February 20, the Chief Minister was today once again going around the Tulip Garden –which officers have been showcasing the visitors as Ghulam Nabi Azad’s creative idea. The Siraj Bagh situated Tulip Garden is stated to be one of the largest such gardens in the world. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad visiting Siraj Bagh twice in a week has enthused a keen interest among the onlookers if it was going to become the eighth wonder of the world. This morning, the Chief Minister also had with him the Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of Kashmir during his visit to the Tulip Graden. As many as 12 lakh tulip bulbs would be ready by the first week of April in the garden which is being developed over 100 kanals of land. The total area of Siraj Bagh is 600 kanals and it is planned to be developed as an all season garden. This is the second time in one week that the Chief Minister visited this garden. Earlier on February 20, Azad inspected Siraj Bagh being developed as one among the largest Tulip gardens in the world at the foot hills of Zabarwan overlooking the famous Dal Lake. Ever since Azad has taken over as the Chief Minister, the Information Department has repeated same paragraph without any change at least ten times. The paragraph is reproduced here: “As many as 12 lakh Tulip bulbs would be ready by first week of April in the garden which is being developed over 100 kanals of land. The total area of Siraj bagh is 600 kanals and it is planned to be developed as a all season garden”. Last year the Chief Minister had visited the Tulip Garden five times. He issued an appeal to the separatists to join the Roundtable Conference during his visit to Tulip Garden on April 14, 2007. That time he was accompanied by his wife Shameem Azad, when he took stock of the work going on at Tulip Garden. He asked the concerned authorities to speed up the work saying the garden was emerging as one of the best in the World. Interestingly this visit was his second to the Tulip Garden in less than one month. Before that he visited Siraj Bagh on World Arbour Day on March 21 and had planted a chinar sapling there.
