KOLKATA: On the occasion of Mother Teresa's 96th birth anniversary her successor in the Missionaries of Charity (MC) Sister Nirmala asked militants to shun violence saying only the power of love can conquer "everything".
"Guns can only spread evil. It is the power of love which can conquer everything. Violence can do no good," Nirmala told reporters.
She said the organisation was celebrating the day with prayers. "We are thanking God for such a gift to earth as Mother Teresa".
The day began with a special early morning mass dedicated to the Nobel laureate.
A steady stream of admirers including a large number of children from other MC houses poured in at Mother's House.
They offered prayers and gifts at her tomb.
The poor were offered food and lodged in the MC facilities in the city.
