| Police all set to host National Hockey meet | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 27 Jammu and Kashmir Police is all set to host the third edition of the All India Martyrs’ Memorial Hockey Tournament being organized under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association (JKHA) at K K Hakhu Astroturf Stadium, here from March one. For the mega event, the otherwise neglected stadium is being given a face-lift by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. From white wash to minor repair work on the turf, everything is being looked into by the police sleuths so as to give the venue a new look ahead of the mega event. The itinerary for the national event, involving 14 top teams of the country, has already been prepared by the organizing committee and will be released during press briefing by Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda on February 29. According to the reliable sources, the event would be declared open by none other than the first citizen of the state, Lt. Gen. (Retd) S K Sinha in a well attended function at the Hakhu Stadium on March Ist. All the 14 participating teams, including defending champion, Punjab and Sindh Bank and runners-up, Punjab Police have already confirmed their participation to the organizers, Jammu and Kashmir Police, the sources added. It is pertinent to mention here that the hosts Jammu and Kashmir Police team had reached up to the quarterfinals stages in the 2nd edition of the tournament. Likewise last year, this time again, two teams are participating in this tournament from Jammu and Kashmir-- Jammu and Kashmir Hockey Association (JKHA) XI and Jammu and Kashmir Police. |
