| Madni demands reconstitution of Anganwari selection committees | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 28 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Mohammad Sartaj Madni has said the committees to be constituted for setting up of new Anganwari centers should be headed by the concerned District Development Commissioners. In a statement issued here today, Madni, while welcoming the creation of 6711 new Anganwari centers by the Government, said the deserving areas must get their due share while setting up the new centers. He, however, expressed his reservations over the constitution of the committees for setting up of the new centers. "Instead of making the concerned District Social Welfare officer the convener of the committee, it would be advisable for the Government to entrust the job to the concerned DDCs," he said and added that such a mechanism would make the whole process of selecting new Anganwari centers more transparent instead of confining it to an intra-departmental affair. He said the present composition of the committees has raised serious misgivings in the public and the Government must dispel any such apprehensions by immediately reconstituting these committees. Madni has urged the Government that merit and suitability must be the prime consideration in the selection of centers and the staff and political or other considerations should not prevail while making selection of Anganwari workers. |
