'PM's daughter has written no book on Ramayana'
2/28/2008 9:46:43 PM
New Delhi | Feb 28
The Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday denied as 'baseless' charges regarding PM's daughter Upinder Tankha having 'written or edited' a book on Ramayana .
"She has written no such book, nor edited. All allegations against her are a canard and motivated," Prime Minister's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement.
He said "incorrect media reports and baseless charges have been made regarding the alleged book on Ramayana written, edited by Upinder Tankha".
Some Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad activists had allegedly vandalised the Delhi University's History department on Monday protesting against inclusion of a collection of essays by late A K Ramanujan -- Three Hundred Ramayans -- in one of the under graduate courses, claiming that the publication distorted ancient culture.
Upinder, a History Professor, who was present when the ABVP activists barged into the department, was whisked away by SPG personnel.
Three ABVP leaders, who were arrested after the protests, were denied bail by a local court on Wednesday.
