| JDA, JMC functioning reviewed | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 28 Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Ch. Gharu Ram has asked the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to be more resourceful and self-reliant by mobilizing revenue generation by way of collection of taxes, rent, parking fees, octroi and creation of remunerative assets in urban areas. He said that the trend of encroachments and illegal constructions within urban areas be strictly discouraged adding that ward officers will have to be more conscious and responsive to implement a systematic and prescribed building permission policy. The Minister was presiding a meeting of JDA officers to review the physical and financial progress made during 2007-08. In the meeting, Ch.Gharu Ram discussed with officers of JDA and JMC on various issues including number of authorized and unauthorized besides criteria for regularization of colonies, funds generated from regular colonies, annual quantum of own resources, construction of new colonies, outstanding of rent of JDA. He directed the officers to work with zeal and dedication and come up to the expectations of the people. He said that to arrange frequent camps in urban areas so that all sections of the society are fully aware with the welfare schemes launched by the government. It was informed by the Vice-Chairman JDA Mr. Ashok Parmar that the construction work of Udyog Bhawan at Rail Head would be completed at a cost of Rs. 14.47 crore by March 2008. He apprised that the construction work of Housing and Urban Development Complex (Architects Building) would be completed at a cost of RS. 2.32 crore by September 2008. Regarding construction of idle parking at Khanpur in Nagrota, he informed that the construction work of 150 vehicles parking is completed at a cost of Rs. 60 lakh besides 615 meter long road is under progress. It was given out in the meeting that 3-storey complex comprising 3 bedrooms, lobby and toilets are completed at a cost of Rs. 11.98 lakh at Rail Head. For construction of Media Complex at Rail Head, he informed that the government has provided Rs. 60 lakh out of Rs. 8 crore, the work is under progress. In another meeting with the officers of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Ch. Gharu Ram asked the officers of the corporation to ensure complete cleanliness and free plying of traffic within municipal limits and see that littering of garbage is not allowed randomly. He asked them for construction of service station for cleaning the garbage containers after regular intervals so that bad odour does not occur in residential areas. The Minister stressed the concerned for proper demarcation and protection of state within municipal limits and make project proposals to raise commercial assets. He also called for area specific survey to ascertain the potential of such land for making them commercially viable and income recurring. It was informed by the Commissioner JMC that the government has provided 6 lakh for old wards and Rs. 8 lakh for new wards for construction and maintenance of lanes and drains of 71 wards of JMC. He apprised that 355 works of lanes and drains were completed in fiscal year besides 320 works are under progress. He informed that the JMC has acquired 156 kanal government land at Kot Bhalwal besides 54 kanals at Chatha. To uplift the socio-economic condition of the Rajiv Nagar poor sections, the centre government has provided Rs. 14 crore under Basic Services to Urban Poor. Vice-Chairman JDA Mr. Ashok Parmar, Commissioner JMC Mr. Vinod Sharma, Director Land Management Mr. A. A. Choudhary, Superintending Engineer JDA Mr. O K Chadgal and various officers of JDA were attended the meeting. |
