Jammu | Feb 28
If Social Welfare Minister Abdul Ghani Vakil is considered close and loyal to the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad then certainly all is not going well in the Congress party.
The new president of the Pradesh Congress Committee Saif-ud-Din Soz in his first visit to Jammu last week had indicated that his party was ready for an alliance for the forthcoming elections. He had said, "we are open to coalitions and in fact coalitions work well as I have a vast experience of working in such alliances".
Throwing the statement of Soz back on his face, the senior Congress leader and Social Welfare Minister Abdul Ghani Vakil today said that there is no decision on the alliances yet. The official information machinery of the government has blown in the latest statement of Vakil well to underline that thoughts in Congress were emerging in different directions.
Congress will contest coming assembly elections on the basis of its performance on political, economic and development fronts. "No decision has been taken on forging pre-poll alliance with any political party yet", Vakil was quoted as saying while addressing public meetings in North Kashmir.
He said, "pro-people historical decisions taken by Congress led government has surpassed all records and performances of all earlier regimes giving Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad a prominent place in the annals of political history of the state".
The Minister said two round table conferences focusing on intra state Confidence Building Measures were held during his tenure, adding that had Pakistan not witnessed internal problems, substantial headway might had been achieved in the dialogue process with neighbouring country as well.
Exhorting officers of his department to gear up for transparent selection of over 13,000 Anganwari workers and helpers within two months, the Minister said that 6000 more centres would be sanctioned by Centre under phase-III envisaging employment for more 12000 unemployed women of the state.
