| Pahari legislatures, students felicitate Mattoo | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 29 Pahari Speaking Students Union, University of Jammu, legislatures and other members from Pahari Community today felicitated Vice Chancellor , University of Jammu Prof Amitabh Mattoo on being conferred with Padamshree award. The Vice Chancellor was also felicitated for approving Pahari and Gojri Language Centre in University of Jammu. Vice Chancellor, Padamshree Prof. Amitabh Mattoo was felicitated by the Legislatures, Pahari Speaking Students and Civil Society members from Pahari Community in a function in the Committee Room, Administration Block this afternoon. Legislatures Civil Society members and students from Pahari community felicitated Vice Chancellor Prof. Amitabh Mattoo by presenting Shawl and Traditional Pagri. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Padamshree Prof. Amitabh Mattoo said that without the support of civil society it was not possible for University to achieve the new heights. "The way people of the state supported the administration of the University encouraged us to make the University one of the premier university of the world," Prof. Amitabh Mattoo said and added that JU is committed to provide quality education to the students of the Univeristy. MLA, Surankote , Syed Mushtaq Bukhari while speaking on the occasion lauded the role of Vice Chancellor University of Jammu , Padamshree Prof. Amitabh Mattoo for approving Pahari and Gojri Languages Centre in Univeristy of Jammu. "Prof Amitabh Mattoo has been awarded one of the country highest civilian awards, the Padamshree, for his contribution to education and public life. Under his stewardship, the University of Jammu has emerged as a centre of academic and extra-curricular excellence," Syed Mushtaq Bukhari said adding that under his leadership Jammu University has witnessed a radical transformation despite being located in tension-ridden state. Former Member Parliament , Chowdhary Talib Hussian while speaking on the occasion said that under the leadership of Prof Mattoo , University of Jammu today exemplifies Prime Minister Nehru's ideals that a University should stand for "humanism and tolerance, for reason, for the adventure of ideas and for the search of truth." "In terms of its research, teaching, extra-curricular activities and general ambience the University of Jammu has truly embarked on an adventure of ideas," he said adding that during these years, the University has also deeply engaged with the region's civil society and launched many unprecedented initiatives. The dignitaries present were , Syed Mashtaq Ahmad Bukhari (MLA), Mirza Abdul Rashid (ex-MP), Jhangir Mir (MLA), Rashpal Singh (MLA), MR Qureshi (MLC) , Rafiq Khan (ex-Minister), Thakur Puran Singh (MLA) , Dr Romesh (Hon'ble MOS) , Ashok Sharma (MLC), Muhammad Aslam Khan (MLC), Murtaza Khan (MLC), Farida Mir (MLC) and Shabir Ahmad Khan Vice Chairman Pahari Advisory Board.
