Jammu | Feb 29
Senior police officials transferred recently by the state cabinet are waiting for the auspicious time and date to take charge in the new office of responsibility.
On Tuesday the state cabinet reshuffled senior police officials with an eye on the assembly polls.
According to official sources despite receiving marching orders from the state government the senior cops are buying time to stay put in their old offices to ensure that they move out as per the auspicious calendar.
On Friday when few senior officials were asked by the media men on the sidelines of the press meet in the Police headquarters they said in unison,” we will assume our duties on Monday and not before that”.They however, ascribed no reasons but When asked about t he delay the officers cited official reasons for the routine delay. At the same time they admitted that they have been advised by their family friends and close relatives to assume charge on Monday as it is believed to be more auspicious day in the calendar.
“Personally I do not believe and propagate such superstitions but I cannot operate in isolation”. I am also part of the system. If my reliever
has faith in all these beliefs I cannot forcefully shun the office without handing him the charge, a senior cop admitted in private. On the other another reason cited by another officer was more though provoking. He said the whole month of February turned out to be an eventful month and there were many mishaps, bad news and unusual events. “It is for this simple reason I never wanted to assume charge in the montd of February and decided to prolong my stay in the old office. It is in the interest of every one of us. We never want our colleagues to invite trouble in their service career as I have great faith in this science of astrology. Number 3 is my lucky number and I an joining on March 3 , another top cop said.
