| Nominations for Mayor: AJKDCM flays Cong, BJP for ignoring SC | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 29 All Jammu and Kashmir Dalit Chetna Manch (AJKDCM) has flayed Congress and BJP for ignoring Scheduled Caste community while nominating their candidates for the Post of Mayor. Expressing great discontentment with the two parties, the Manch Chairman M L Bhagat said that by away the claim Congress and BJP has been exposed as anti-scheduled Caste. He said the failure of these parties in acknowledging the claim of the SC for the post of Mayor is reflective of their disrespect towards the community. He hoped that the two parties would review the nominations for the coveted Post, as it was not too late as yet. Bhagat also demanded Permanent Residence status for Valmiki Community living in the states who were brought to the state from Punjab by then Chief Minister Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad in 1957 for work here as Safai Karmcharis (Scavengers). He said since that time the people of this community are serving the state but their wards who are educated are not getting government jobs and other benefits in absence of State subject status. Bhagat also sought amendment in the nomenclature of this Safai Karamcharies from 'Chura' to 'Valmikian'. He also sought modification in the rules set by Social Welfare Department for awarding scholarship to the Sc and ST candidates. |
