| Bring horticulture under loan waiver scheme, Dilawar to Centre | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 1 Describing the Union Budget as ‘farmer friendly’, the Minister for Horticulture, Mohammad Dilawar Mir has urged the Union Government to bring the horticulture sector also under the purview of debt waiver scheme to benefit the small and marginal horticulturists. Interacting with the representatives of fruit growers and dealers led by President, All Valley Fruit Growers and Traders Association, Ghulam Mustafa here today, the Minister said that the fruit growers and dealers of the state deserve benefits of the loan waiver scheme announced by the Union Finance Minister as the fruit industry has been worst hit by the vagaries of weather and the turmoil. He said centre should come to the rescue of turmoil ravaged fruit industry of the state and provide succor to the fruit growers to enable them clear their accumulated interests and loan out standings adding that extension of loan waiver scheme to horticulture sector was need of the hour. He urged the centre to bring the fruit growers and traders under the proposed one time settlement scheme also. The representatives of the fruit growers and traders discussed various problems confronting the horticulture sector with the Minister. Responding to their demands, the Minister announced that allotment of shop sites in Fruit Mandi, Sopore would be completed within a month. He said the mandi will be developed as modern Fruit Market in North Kashmir. In addition, one Terminal Fruit Market in South Kashmir and one Terminal Market between Vijaypur and Samba in Jammu were proposed to be developed shortly. Establishment of these fruit markets would provide marketing facilities to the fruit growers and traders, he added. The Minister also informed that government proposes to construct additional 100 rooms in the Kissan Ghar near Fruit Mandi Azadpur Delhi to provide adequate accommodation facilities to the fruit growers and traders of the state during their stay in Delhi in connection with their fruit business. He said a modern Kissan Ghar near Fruit Mandi Narwal Jammu is also nearing completion. |
