Denial of democratic right to vote, alleges KDD | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 8: Kashmir Displaced District (KDD) of BJP is constrained to bring to the notice of People in general and in particular the concerned authorities and defenders of Democratic Rights continuous denial of the right to vote in Urban Local Bodies and Panchayat elections for which the process has been set in motion. Chief Electoral Officer of the state has already notified special Revision of Municipal Electoral Rolls-2018. Electoral Rolls have been published and kept available for public for claims and objections. But no provision has been made to update the electoral rolls of the Displaced Community in Camps like Jagti, Nagrota, Muthi & Purkhoo. Even in the Non-camp areas where the community members are residing names of the Displaced Community electors do not figure in the electoral Rolls either in Srinagar or here in Jammu. As a consequence the entire .Community stands excluded from the Democratic exercise- a fundamental right constitutionally guaranteed under Article 326 of the Constitution of India. Part X section 140 clearly states, "Every person who is a permanent resident of the State" and "is not otherwise disqualified under this Constitution or any law made by the Legislature shall be registered as a voter. We have been raising the issue with concerned authorities both in the government and Chief Electoral Officer J&K for over a year now. In spite of our repeated pleas nothing has been done on ground. The Community has been kept in dark. |
