Justice Gupta Commission Submitted its report to the Governor to J&K
Jammu, August, 26-(JNF):- Justice KK Gupta Enquiry Commission regarding the controversy over Ice-Lingam at Shri Amarnath Ji Cave, today at 9:30 AM submitted his report to the Governor of J&K, who is also Chairman of Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and given clean Chit to the SASB.
In the 90 pages report in which the commission recorded statements of various peoples of J&K and outside the J&K including Eminent Geologists and observed that during the period when SASB functionaries started their normal activities pertaining to the Yatra of 2006, they took quick action in finding out the reasons of non-formation Holy Shiv Lingam. No tempering of any nature with the holy Shivlingam took place. The commission also finds from the facts that there is some divine power which intervenes in the formation of holy Ice-Shivlingam and the same happened in this year, when up to May 16, 2006, there was no trace of any lingam on its usual place.
A Team from High Altitude welfare school was sent to the holy cave by the SASB reconnoiter area on the roof of the cave and adjacent to it and the nearest Glaciers, they found the Glaciers have shifted 50 to 100 meters away. This team felt that apart from the usually high temperature, as a result of October, 2005 earth-quake, surface and sub-surface water channels could have been effected and this may explain the fact that the place where usually Ice-Lingam used to form was totally dry. Snow Avalanche studies establishment was asked to visit the holy cave and furnish its advice with regard to non-formation of holy Ice-Lingam. This team brought satellite pictures of Glaciers of various years and confirmed the shifting of Glaciers as part of Global Warming. On May 19, 2006, it was found that water had started seeping down @ 2-3 drops per minute. This development was welcomed and it was viewed almost as a miracle and regarded as a divine intervention. SASB on getting such information conducted professor MN Koul eminent Geologist of Jammu University, who opined that this could lead to the formation of Shiv Lingam even now as had been his previous experience of late forming of Shiv-Lingam in eighties. On May 19, 2006 representatives of Air Control and Equipment visited the holy cave to take measurement and study terrain and they confirmed the seeping of the water inside the cave at original site of holy Shiv-Lingam, but found usually high temperature inside the cave and thus recommended the use of Dry Ice. On May 20, team again visited the holy cave area and found a copious seeping of water inside which showed considerable increase from what had been reported on the previous day.
Justice Gupta Commission said that we see no hand of any official of the SASB information of Snow Shivlingam or tempering of the natural Ice-Shivlingam, which in fact had not been tempered during the Yatra period announced by SASB. Some religious scholars who have appeared before the commission or otherwise, while justifying the natural process of formation of holy Shivlingam and thereafter its melting, have stated that nobody should be allowed to comment or raise controversy on such like religious matters which shakes the faith of devotees and according to them, this is a divine control phenomena and human intervention should not be tolerated. Upon this Justice Gupta Commission observed that we would only kike to remark that India is a democratic country and everybody has right as permitted by our constitution to raise any type of controversy, but at the same time we put a note of caution here that divine and religious matters are not within the scope of mischievous and misguided elements, whatsoever they may be, it is also on record that such controversies have been raised simply to sabotage the yatra and malign the image of SASB.
After analyzing the evidence placed on record the Justice KK Gupta Commission has come to conclusion that from the very start of creation of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, their main anxiety was for protecting and prolonging the life of holy Shivlingam as it was felt and brought to their notice that because of the global heat the holy Ice Shivlingam would not last for a longer period and on the last day of the Yatra and even earlier, it was observed to have been completely melted. So many proposals were brought before the SASB and even there was suggestion of installing a transparent Shivlingam in the cave area.
One Man Commission in its 90 pages report observed that though the possibility of by way of piling of snow at the place where holy Shivlingam originates in natural form by the Pandits of Mattan or Ganeshpura cannot be ruled out but this had happened before the start of official yatra. There is no tempering of holy Shivlingam by the officials of SASB or GOVT of its formation. It is also clear and seems to be fact as told to the commission on Spot, that nature or divine power had intervene this time ffor the creation of Holy Shivlingam.
Justice KK Gupta (rtd) n Commission was appointed by the Governor J&K, who is also a chairman of SASB enquire into the allegations tempering with size and shape of Holy Ice- Lingam at Shri Amarnath Ji Cave , while concluding the enquiry report recommend suggestions for future improvement in running of the Yatra. This was disclosed by Justice KK Gupta Chairman of the Commission and Secretary Mr. DP Khajuria in an Interview with jnf that the natural ICE-Shivlingam formed or to be formed at the Holy Cave should not be disturbed or interfered in any manner, as its results hurting the deep-routed religious sentimental attachments of large number of devotes of the country. Any how looking to the global warning and yearly increase in number of yatries, the Shrine Board may continue to make efforts to find out permanent solution to make the are of cave cool for prolonging, the life holy Shivlingam. In this regard efforts shall also be made by the Shrine Board to make available, such information to the public through various means. It is also suggested that leading Hindu religious may also be consulted in this regard to avoid any controversy. The Commission also suggested that SASB may also considered making arrangements for printing and publishing of a magazine on religious matters pertaining to Lord Shiva so that the public at large in the country may have knowledge about the Holy Shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji and the activities of SASB. The Shrine Board may also in this respect link the MATA VAISHNO DEVI Shrine and the magazine can be published on joint venture. With these observations the Commission given clean Chit to SASB in controversy raised about tempering the holy Ice Lingam of Shri Amarnath Ji.
It is pertinent to mention here Justice KK Gupta (rtd) Chairman of One Man Commission of Enquiry and Mr. DP Khajuria Secretary of the Commission have not taken any Financial Assistance from the SASB.
