Security forces gunned down two Al-Badr militants, including a PoK national, in a joint operation at Chewdara village of Beerwah area of Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district, on Sunday morning. Police spokesman quoting SSP Budgam told News Agency of Kashmir that on specific information Police and troops of 34 RR carried out cordon and search operation of Chewdara. He said that the militants hiding in the house of the widow of a slain HM militant Rashid Bhat fired upon the search party triggering off an encounter. Both the militants, hiding in the house, were shot dead after an encounter, which lasted for about two hours, sources said. They were later identified as Janbaaz Khan, son of Ghulam Ahmed Khan, of Kotli Dak Mohalla, Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK) and Imtiyaz Ahmed Dar alias Janbaz of Ghulam Ahmed Dar of Cherpora Beerwah. Janbaaz Khan was an "A" category militant wanted by Police in number of militancy related cases while Imtiyaz was a "B" category militant, the spokesman said. Reports from the village revealed that the army used mortal shells to target the hideout of the militants. The house, where the militants were hiding, was completely damaged in the encounter. Meanwhile, a civilian was shot dead in broad day light near Jamia Masjid Warpora area of Sopore in Baramulla district. Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that a Sign board artist Riyaz Ahmad War son of Ghulam Muhammad of Warpora Sopore was fired upon by a suspected militant injuring him critically. The injured was rushed to hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries. Police said that a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprit. (NAK)
