SRINAGAR, Aug 26, Making a passionate demand for separate colony for 128 families–which were affected by snow storm in Waltengu Nar in southern Anantnag district, last year, and immediate attention of government towards health, education and other sectors, the protesting victims; mostly Gujjars, say their families are in a bad shape and need immediate attention of the authorities. A delegation of victims led by Chowdhry Bashir Ahmad Bashir of Kund, who lost his six children in snow tsunami, hailing from Anantnag on Saturday afternoon, staged a protest demonstration here outside Press Enclave to press for their demands which protesters said are genuine. "The state government promised construction of a separate colony for 128 affected families but as of now only 33 ordinary sheds have been made. With harsh winter approaching, we all are worried what will happen to our children, women and elderly persons?," Mr Bashir told KIP. Most of the victims alleged the central government has not released the promised compensation to all the victims. "Out of 162 families that were to receive one lakh rupees each from the Central government only 60 have got it," said a victim Ghulam Hussain Tenda. Qasim Chechi, 80, another victim rued about the "miseries and sufferings faced by children, pathetic condition of schools in open and abysmal condition of health centres". The victims also demanded free ration, adequate water supply, dispensaries and other facilities. |
