| KPs want three seats in J-K Assembly, one in Parliament | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 3 A group representing Kashmiri Pandits have demanded reservation of three seats in the J-K state Assembly and one in Parliament for the members of the displaced community. "Some exceptions notwithstanding, the presence of Kashmiri Pandits in the umpteen representative, democratic committees, bodies and institutions has rarely been adequate during the past six decades," a vision document released here by Movement for Kashmiri Pandit Empowerment said. We are seeking to get at least three assembly seats for KP community in Kashmir as it would provide them with a political space which they rightly deserve, MKPE convenor Anil Dhar said. It would enable them not only to be equal partners in the reconstruction of the state as a whole, but they would also find a democratic and a representative legislative forum to highlight their plight and fight for their genuine rights, demands and objectives, he said. We propose that the state government should convene an all-party meeting in which a unanimous decision could be taken for giving assembly seats to three KP representatives, he said. Pointing out that there are six Lok Sabha seats and four Rajya Sabha for Jammu and Kashmir, he said that out of these 10 seats, at least one should be given to the nominee of KP community. |
