Inside reports suggest that in the last seven months Mir has not attended even a single meeting convened by the party leadership. He seldom visit party offices and is running the show independently. When contacted PDP leader said “yes I have not attended any meeting for the last several months.”Asked whether he receives invitation from the party leaders he said “even if I receive an invitation I will not attend the meeting.” The reason:he has felt dismayed with the performance of the PDP leadership. He said “we formed the PDP for setting right the political system which had been eroded by the National Conference.” He said “it is for the people to judge whether the PDP has been able to rectify the wrong.” Sources said that senior PDP leaders were trying to iron out differences between the Muftis and Mr Mir but so far they have not achieved any success as the latter seems to be determined to give a definite shape to the third front. The Deputy Chief Minister,Muzaffar Hissain Baig, has,on one hand described Mr Mir’s accusations against the PDP leadership as baseless and on the other hand has stated that the differences with Mr Mir will be resolved through talks.”He said that “there was no space for the third front in Jammu and Kashmir because the entire political space has been filled by the National Conferemnce, the Congress and the PDP. Even the PDP chief,Ms Mehbooba Mufti, has admitted that there were some differences with Mr Mir.She has said,in an interview with a Srinagar based weekly, that “we approached him for resolving the differences.”She was vague when asked whether the differences were resolved. She said “Mr Mir will be able to tell what is the problem.”When asked whether Mr Mir continued to be in the PDP Ms Mehbooba said “the question can be answered by Mr Mir.” However,Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir,gave a clear indication that he was engaged in sustained dialogue with senior political leaders of different hue for the formation of the third front.Informed sources said that besides the CPIM leader,Mr M.Y.Tarigami,the Transport Minister,Hakim Mohd.Yasin, are active in lending support to Mr Mir so that months before the Assembly poll the third front was ready. Sources close to Ghulam Hassan Mir said that the PDP leader and a former Minister was not happy over what he has been calling lack of democratic atmosphere in the PDP.He feels that the PDP show was being run by Muft I Mohd.Sayeed and his daughter,Ms Mehbooba. On the other hand Ms Mehbooba is of the opinion that such an accusation has not been leveled against the party leadership by any other worker or leader. |
