Shopkeepers Association General Bus Stand Jammu has expressed its fullest sympathy and solidarity with the striking SRTC employees, who have not been paid their salaries for last many months, forcing them to come to the streets, hold demonstrations and ultimately resort to indefinite strike.
A meeting of the Shopkeepers Association General Bus Stand Jammu held here today under the Chairmanship of its President Ashwani Sharma expressed serious concern over the entire life in the general bus stand Jammu as well as other stations in the state coming to stand still as a result of the strike by the employees of J&K SRTC, leading to non running of buses to any route. This has in turn adversely affected the business of shopkeepers, with no passengers coming to the bus stand.
The association observed that non payment of salaries to the employees for many months, bringing the employees at the starvation point, with their children unable to pay fees in schools and colleges and hence their studies getting discontinued, is a very serious matter. The employees who have exhausted all other means to get justice from the authorities, in terms of timely disbursement of their salaries, are fully justified in resorting to the strike, as a last resort to press their highly genuine demand. The association has demanded immediate release of past arearers of their salaries to the drivers, conductors and other employees of SRTC and also ensuring timely disbursement of their salaries every month. In case the government fails to release salaries to the employees all sections of traders will be forced to adopt agitational approach to press for genuine demands of SRTC employees to be met.
Besides Ashwani Sharma others who attended the meeting were Surinder Gupta, Senior Vice President, Nariender Kumar, General Secretary, Madhu Sharma, Vice President, Rajesh Gandhotra, Vice President, V J Chadha, Cashier, Varinder Gupta, Rakesh Gupta, Secretary, Vijay Uppal, Organizer, Inderjeet Sharma, Joint Secretary.
