| CITU expresses concern over condition of workers | | Demand engagement of local workers, structural change in industrial policy | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 4 Expressing grave concern over the deplorable condition of workers engaged in construction projects and industries, Center of Indian Trade Union (CITU) state committee has demanded engagement of local workers and structural changes in industrial policy to create positive trends in the development of economy with employment generation. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, President CITU, Comrade Javid Ahmed Zargar said that workers engaged in various projects in industries are facing the miseries despite toiling hard to earn their livelihood He further said that local workers engaged in Sewa Hydel Project, USB rail project, Kalakote Coal mine; Bahlihar Hydel Power Project face harassment at the hands of management and nothing is being done to alleviate their miseries. The local workers working in these projects in violation of labour laws have been retrenched despite the repeated assurances by concerned authorities regarding their reengagement, he added. The services of forty-nine, out of eighty five local workers in USB rail project were taken back by concerned authorities in brazen violation of Payment of Wages Act, Maintenance of records and other labour laws. He also said that the faulty industrial policy encouraged by pseudo- industrialists has developed a negative trend in economic acceleration and consequently added to ever increasing number of unemployed persons. He stressed upon the government to redress the genuine demands of clerical staff to avoid the inconvenience faced by the general public due to their pen-down strike. On the occasion, he demanded wage revision in favour of Baghiliar workers and release of wages in favor of Kalakote Mine workers. Others present on the occasion included Comrade Nirdosh Uppal, Joint Secretary, Sham Prasad Kesar, Om Prakash Sharma and others. |
