| Zaradari's suggestion keeping at hold Kashmir issue is realization of ground realities | | | Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | Mar 4 News Analysis While the opposition and sharp criticism of Pakistan Peoples Party, Asif zaradari, suggesting keeping at hold the solution of Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan, for the future generation to decide, while at present what is more important is fostering friendly relations with India and strengthening trade relations between the two countries, by the secessionist and separatist outfits in Kashmir is on the expected lines, what is surprising is advocacy of their concern by the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Almost all the mainstream parties in J&K have hailed Zaradari's realistic stand, which is in the interest of both the countries, sharp difference in the approach of various PDP leaders on the issue has come to fore. Whereas the Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who is the PDP's senior leader, has welcomed the change of mind in the Pak leaders, for which he gives credit to the policies and programs of his party and its supreme leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the latter has implicitly disagreed with Baig as well as with Zaradari. In his meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi Mufti Sayeed has laid stress that Kashmir issue cannot be wished off and kept aside, as has been suggested by Asif Zaradari, whose party is poised for forming the government in Pakistan, in coalition with Nawaz Sharief's PML and some other groups. Mufti has laid stress on not keeping at hold the settlement of Kashmir issue. This is like the proverbial case of "Mudahi Susat---Gava Chusat". In pleading the case of Pakistan and secessionist and pro Pak elements in Kashmir, Mufti has tried to be more loyal than the king. In the meanwhile secessionists and separatists of all hue and colour in Kashmir have sharply criticized Asif Zaradari for suggesting keeping Kashmir issue at hold taking a hawkish pasture these leaders have recalled Zulfkar Ali Bhutto's assertion of a thousand year war with India to get Kashmir merged with Pakistan. They characterize the stand taken by Zaradari as betrayal of late Z A Bhutto as well as the recently assassinated Benazir Bhutto. In doing so they forget that in the 1971 war after Pakistan's defeat at the hands of India, India displayed utmost magnanimity in setting free 91,000 Pak soldiers taken as prisoners in the war, although India was in a position to dictate terms to Pakistan and get settled the Kashmir issue in its favour, in exchange for the release of such a large number of Pak soldiers. Again Mrs. Benazir Bhutto who in the past was hawkish viz a viz India, had lately became wise enough to lay emphasis on building friendly relations with India and ensuring if she came to power she would curb the terrorists operating from Pak soil against India. Asif Zaradari's stand is in keeping with the reality of the situation, aimed at shunning the path of hatred between the two countries and instead building bridges for the two nations to come closer and achieve progress and development through constructive activities. Again the argument advanced by the separatists in Kashmir of thousands of lives lost during last 20 years in the struggle for settlement of Kashmir issue in keeping with the wishes of the separatist, they need be reminded that much larger number of people have made supreme sacrifices to resist nefarious designs of the enemies to dismember Jammu and Kashmir from India. Besides several thousands of our valiant soldiers killed in the wars with Pakistan in 1947-48, 1965, 1971, the Kargil war and then the proxy war launched by Pakistan, a very large number of civilians have also laid down their lives for keeping J&K as integral part of India. Any citing of the sacrifices made by the people on both sides of the fence will not lead us to anywhere. The people of Kashmir should accept the facts of history and live as peaceful citizens of the state as a part of India, where they are treated at par with any other section of the people and enjoy full liberty and freedom of expression, which has remained denied to the people of Pakistan. Last but not least they must take lesson from the present turmoil in Pakistan, where the machinations of its rulers and the state policy of exporting terrorism to neighbouring countries has recoiled on Pakistan itself, with the same set of terrorists now targeting Pakistanis, its armed forces as well as the politicians. |
