Appointment of political Governor in J&K can prove counter-productive: Harsh
8/22/2018 10:45:55 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: Having regard to the regional, religious and political sensitivities of a state like J&K, the various Govts at the centre had always refrained from appointing political governors in the state, said Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and Former Minister.
He said that successive Govts at the centre including those of Dr. Man Mohan Singh, I.K Gujral, Deve Gowda, Narsimha Rao, Chander Shekher and even Atal Behari Vajpayee believed in giving a non political Governor so as to give an impression of unbiased Governance and to win over the trust of multifarious sections of society in the trouble torn state. He said that during all these years only civil servants, diplomats, retd Army Generals and intelligence chiefs etc having no political affiliations were appointed as Governors with a logical reason to insulate bureaucracy from political interference.
He said that such decisions had received widespread appreciation in view of State Governor acting as the head of state and custodian of law and the constitution. He was addressing a public meeting in Janipur, Ward No. 37 of Jammu West constituency today. Why at all it appeared to the Union Govt to appointment a political person as the Governor of a sensitive state like J&K at this crucial juncture is for the BJP to explain said Harsh adding that the incumbent Governor NN Vohra should have been allowed to continue in view of the improvement of security scenario during his rule besides his initiatives to restore democracy at the grass root level.
He said that while Governor NN Vohra needed to be complimented for peaceful conduct of a relatively longer Amar Nath Ji pilgrimage, his efforts to bring the highly corrupt and derailed administration set up back on rails also needed to be applauded.
