| Pahari speaking people demands ST status | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 5 J&K Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People today has demanded ST status for the Pahari speaking people of the state. Iftikhar Ahmed, Member J&K Govt. Advisory Board for Development of Pahari while addressing the media persons strongly demanded that Scheduled Tribe (ST) Status should be given to Pahari Speaking People who have been suffering from last 60 years. He said that Pahari Community has full faith in the leadership of Ghulam Nabi Azad and hoped that he will granted ST to Pahari during his tenure. He also welcome the Statement of Chief Minister that till the ST Status is granted state Govt will explore the possibility of conferring OBC Status to Pahari Community. He also urged both Pahari and Gujjar Bakerwal Community to remain united and fight united for the cause of each other and not to oppose each other. Ahmed demanded that Chief Minister should give special quota to unemployed Pahari youth in recently announced on spot 70,000 recruitment in Police Department and also demanded that Pahari speaking People should be given due representation in various commissions, boards and corporations. He welcomed and thanked Prof Amitab Mattoo Vice Chancellor Jammu University for establishing Pahari and Gojri Research centre at Jammu University. Earlier, he thanked Abdul Gani Vakil, Minister for Social Welfare who chaired review meeting of Pahari advisory board for approving the scholarship amount and also appealed him to direct social welfare department to distribute scholarship as early as possible. |
