| Kashmiri leadership criticize Zardari's ‘K’ statement | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 5 Mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have come out with a mixed bag of reactions to the recent statement of PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari,husband of Benazir Bhutto. Majority of Kashmir leadership disagreed with Mr Zardiri's view with an eye on the ensuing Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir.While doing so they failed went to the extent of contradicting each others statement on Kashmir issue. The Transport Minister,Hakim Mohd.Yasin has reacted sharply to the statement of Zardari making it clear that the Kashmir issue cannot be kept on hold. He said that it was a dispute that needed an amicable settlement. The Patron of the PDP Mufti Mohd Sayeed echoed similar viewpoints.He said that improvement in political and security scenario in the state should not be construed as solution to the Kashmir issue.During his recent meeting with Prime Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh in Delhi the Mufti said that the Kashmir issue cannot be kept on hold. However,Mufti's close party colleague and Deputy Chief Minister,Muzaffar Hussain Baig,has welcomed Mr Zardari's statement saying that it indicated a change of mind in Pakistani leaders. While the state unit of the Congress has maintained meaningful silence the opposition National Conferene is divided over Mr Zardari's statement.Patron of the National Conference,Dr Farooq Abdullah, also welcomed Mr Zardari's stand on the Kashmir issue but his party colleague,Mr Abdul Rahim Rather,leader of the opposition in the Assembly,expressed views totally divergent to Dr Abdullah. Political observers here said that leaders of these mainstream political parties opposed Zardafri's stand for keeping their vote bank in the Kashmir valleyintact. |
