| BJP celebrates Kavinder’s election | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 5 Bharatiya Janta Party, Jammu and Kashmir, today celebrated the victory of its leader Shri Kavinder Gupta as Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC). Shri Kavinder Gupta secured 37 votes out of a total strength of 71 members. He defeated Manmohan Singh Pinka of Indian National Congress, who secured 34 votes. This is the second time when Shri Kavinder Gupta has been elected Mayor of JMC. Prior to it, Kavinder Gupta had created history by becoming first Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation in the year 2005. The party headquarters turned into a celebration site as soon as the news of the victory reached there. The jubilant party activists started dancing to the tunes of drum beats. Every one was seen congratulating each other and distributing sweets. BJP State President Ashok Khajuria, while addressing the media persons at the party headquarters, thanked the BJP corporators and others who expressed faith in the ideology and principles of BJP and defeated the anti-Jammu and anti-Dogra forces. He said that the victory of Shri Kavinder Gupta is the victory of honour and dignity of the Dogras. He expressed confidence that the BJP will emerge victorious in the coming assembly elections and we will play an important role in government formation. Seh Prabhari, J&K BJP, Sardar R.P. Singh, who had been keeping in touch with the state leadership for the last two weeks and had even visited Jammu last week alongwith North Zone Organizing Secretary Shri Manohar Lal, reached Jammu early in the morning and was very much confident of party’s victory. He, while expressing joy and happiness over the victory, said that the people of the state as well as the elected representatives of the JMC had realized that the Congress and National Conference are the two sides of the same coin and their agenda had been to promote the cause of Kashmiri leaders and valley and ignore Jammu in all matters and at all levels. He said the victory is also an indication that it is the BJP only which can strengthen the nationalist forces in the state and end discrimination. Kavinder Gupta termed his victory as the result of joint efforts of the party leadership and assured that he will work whole-heartedly to ensure development of Jammu city and make it a Model City. Former Union MoS & senior leader of BJP Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta and Member National Executive & former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh also congratulated Kavinder Gupta on his victory . Smt. Suresh Jamwal, Ajay Jamwal, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Bali Bhagat, Jyoti Parkash Sharma, Yudhvir Sethi, S. Charanjit Khalsa, Sat Sharma (C.A), Ramesh Arora (Advocate), Shiv Kumar Gupta, Smt. Usha Choudhary, N.D. Rajwal, Bansi Lal Bharti, Chander Mohan Gupta, Ramesh Sharma, Vinay Gupta, Baldev Singh, and all the Corporators of the BJP too congratulated Kavinder Gupta on this occasion. |
