| Cong misused official resources, alleges Chaman | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 6 Assailing the ruling Congress for misusing the government resources for holding party meet on the arrival of new PCC Chief, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz here yesterday at the official residence of the Chief Minister, the former Union Minister and senior leader of the BJP, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has alleged that Congress and its allies had always been making a mockery of all the set democratic norms and this has been the main cause for many problems in this troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir. Taking a strong exception at the holding of Kissan meet of the Congress at the Banquet Hall at the residence of the CM, Prof. Gupta observed that first of all this was wrong to hold such a political meet at a government place, and that too, at the official residence of the CM, and then misuse all the resources of the poor exchequer to hym the songs of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi for what is being told about the waiving of the loans of the farmers. He said that whole issue looks like a mirage at the eve of general elections as nothing has been made clear about the loans which are going to be exempted. As far as Jammu and Kashmir, especially the region of Jammu was concerned, that during the past about twenty years now hardly any bank loan was granted to farmers as they were termed defaulters in wake of waiving of the such loans during VP Singh regime of Janta Dal in early nineties, the BJP leader pointed out and added that such a big confusion was created that large number of farmers became defaulters and they are facing the music in the courts for years together now. Prof. Gupta also recalled that farmers in Jammu areas were provided loans through various types of cooperative societies which stand defunct for over a decade now. He asked the ruling leaders to come out with a clear cut statement that who are the farmers whose loans are being waived off especially when for the past twenty years now that hardly any loan has been provided to the genuine farmers. The BJP leader said that by creating mere hype in the name of farmers and workers the Congress would not be able to befool the peasantry and other sections of the society as they had been indulging in such gimmicks on the eve of every elections. He described the present dispensation of Jammu and Kashmir as the worst and most despotic. In this regard he particularly referred to the ongoing spate of anti-government demonstrations and even the employees are being threatened with harsh measures like ESMA. Prof. Gupta said that this was height of totalitarianism that the employees of SRTC have not been paid their emoluments for the past five months and even their GP Fund has been swindled, and now they are being threatened with ESMA when they are on the roads to demand their wages. |
