Roshni Scheme, waiving of loans historic gifts to farmers: Vakil

Minister for Social Welfare and senior Vice President JKPCC Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil has appreciated Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's efforts for bringing horticulture sector of J&K under the ambit of loan waiving scheme announced by the Union Finance Minister for small and marginal farmer, in his budget speech. Mr. Vakil said that enactment of Roshni Scheme by the Azad led government in Jammu and Kashmir and conferring free ownership rights to farmers on over 22 lakh kanals of state land alongwith waiver of 60,000 crore of agriculture loans by the Congress led UPA government would go as historic decisions in the annals.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting at Dooru Shahabad today, the Minister said that the era of massive infrastructure development created by Mr. Azad would be carried forward with added acceleration in coming years. He said "Congress believes in development and politics of truthfulness. We do not indulge in raising hallow slogans for vote bank politics, but our people friendly policy speaks through the development", Vakil maintained.
Asking people to be active players in the large-scale development process kick started across the state, Mr. Vakil said, "every one of us is equally stakeholder in peace and development process".
Referring to the massive expansion of health and education sectors, he said establishment of 40 colleges and sanctioning of another 18-alongwith construction of about 50 district and sub-district hospitals in just 2 and a half years, was not a joke. "It has been possible only by the efforts of Mr. Azad and liberal funding by the Congress led UPA government". He said the keen interest of UPA chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the reconstruction of the state was visible in the liberal central assistance for all developmental sectors besides huge Rs. 26000 crore package under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Programme.
He appealed the people especially youth to extend their hand to Mr. Azad in his mission to bring lasting peace and prosperity to the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Power Mr. Babu Singh said that state had embarked upon a massive power generation and distribution programme with the central assistance. "On completion of various prestigious projects under implementation in the state under PMRP and other state and centre sponsored schemes, the state would be self-sufficient in power generation in near future", he added.
The meeting was also addressed by the Member Legislative Assembly Mr. Ghulam Ahmad Mir, district president Congress Mr. Gulzar Ahmad and General Secretary Mr. Paddar.
