| PDP has become prototype of NC: Mir | | Says party is no one’s property | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Mar 6 The beleaguered Peoples Democratic Party leader and former Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir is leading the baton of accusation against the party leader and has come in open to criticize the 'family centric approach of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. "The dissensions among the Peoples Democratic Party leadership over the party patron's over possessive attitude towards his daughter Mehbooba Mufti is leading to a vertical split among the party leadership" said the former minister in an interview to a local channel in South Kashmir, the home constituency of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. He said that PDP came into being with an objective of addressing the people's problems and an alternative to dynastic rule of 'Abdullah family.' "But due to the current leadership's over obsession with the family politics, it (PDP) has become a prototype of National Conference" Mir said adding people of Kashmir don't want another replica of national Conference but a democratic and just party representing their feelings. Mir ruled out any question of leaving the party saying that PDP is 'my' party and is not any once personal prosperity. He said that party has gone haywire on its policies and there is no coherent policies of the party to address to the problems of unemployed youth, making the state economically self reliant. He said that he wants that Jammu and Kashmir state should become economically self reliant and there are no policies of the PDP leadership to address to this burning issue. He said that when he says that 'third front' is needed in the state, he foresees a bright future for a formation which really addresses the peoples' issues rather than making loud claims and repeatedly going to Central government with a begging bowl. The posers of rebel leader and founder member of PDP have put the party patron in a tight spot as whisper campaign is going on within the party circles that Mufti in a bid to pave way for smooth transition of power within the party to his daughter Mehbooba Mufti has been playing politics with senior party leaders and humiliating them in the power game. Mufti during the past has removed senior PDP leader and presently Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig from the post of party president paving the way for Mehbooba to become party president. Later Muzaffar Beig was recalled from the cabinet of Ministers after a tug war with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Beig was again installed after he started hobnobbing with rebel leader Ghulam Hassan Mir. Similarly senior party leader and Minister for Housing and Forests Qazi Mohammad Afzal was forced to eat a humble pie as party leadership including Mehbooba and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed made no strong protests after he was divested of Forest portfolio and later asked to resign by the party leadership. But Ghulam Hassan Mir has become a force to reckon with in the party as he is openly questioning the alleged wrong decisions and policies of the party leadership. Recently he has been holding a series of meetings which have evoked enthusiastic response from various quarters. The dissension within party ranks over imitating the opposition National Conference politics has become a serious challenge to the party leadership. |
